The EU Cohesion Policy is the policy of the EU mainstreaming the principle of solidarity among Member States and has been adopted with the aim to bridge the disparities of development and prosperity amongst the EU Member States. It is one of the fundamental policies of the European Union and its key objective is to promote economic, social and territorial cohesion between Member States and the EU regions. The EU, through the Cohesion Policy, is investing billions of euros to support the efforts of regions to enhance their competitiveness and attract more people to stay and work within them. During the last twenty years, EU Cohesion Policy has contributed to a significant reduction of the gap between the rich and the poor countries and regions. Cyprus, like all Member States, benefits from EU Cohesion Policy.
